In short: we collect only the details you give us when you contact us or book a class, we use them to reply and to run our lessons, we never sell your data, and you can ask us to show or delete what we hold about you at any time.

1 Who we are

New Pacific ("we", "us", or "our") provides online English tuition, including general English, IELTS preparation, and business English, to students around the world. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data that we collect through our website and in the course of providing our services.

We intend to operate as a business registered in Hong Kong, and we handle personal data in line with the principles of the Hong Kong Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (the "PDPO"). Where you are located elsewhere, we also aim to respect the data-protection expectations that apply in your region.

2 Information we collect

We only collect the information we need to respond to you and to deliver our classes. This includes:

Information you give us

  • Contact details — your name, email address, and any phone or messaging details you share when you fill in our contact form, book a free trial, or message us.
  • Your message — what you tell us about your goals, such as the programme you are interested in or the age and level of the student.
  • Booking and lesson information — scheduling preferences, class history, and notes your teacher keeps to support your learning.
  • Payment information — when you purchase classes, payment is handled by our banking or payment provider. We receive confirmation of payment but do not store your full card details on our own systems.

Information we collect automatically

  • Technical and usage data — when analytics are enabled, we may collect standard information such as your device type, browser, approximate location, and how you use our site, through cookies and similar technologies (see section 6).

3 How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • respond to your enquiries and arrange your free trial;
  • schedule, deliver, and improve your classes;
  • process payments for the class packages you buy;
  • send you information about your bookings and, where you have agreed, occasional updates about our services;
  • understand how our website is used so we can improve it; and
  • meet our legal and record-keeping obligations.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.

4 Our basis for using it

We rely on the following grounds to handle your personal data: to take steps at your request before entering into a contract and to perform our contract with you (for example, arranging and delivering classes); your consent (for example, marketing messages, which you can withdraw at any time); and our legitimate interests in running and improving our services, provided these do not override your rights.

5 When we share information

We share your information only where it is necessary to run our service, and only with parties who are expected to keep it secure. These may include:

  • Our teachers, who need your booking and learning details to teach your classes;
  • Service providers that help us operate, such as video-conferencing platforms (for example, Zoom and Google Meet), email and scheduling tools, and our payment or banking provider;
  • Authorities or advisers, where we are required to share information by law, or to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

We do not sell or rent your personal data to third parties for their own marketing.

6 Cookies and analytics

Cookies are small files stored on your device that help a website work and help owners understand how it is used. Our site uses, or may in future use:

  • Essential cookies, which are needed for the site to function, such as remembering your language choice;
  • Analytics cookies, which we plan to use (for example, Google Analytics) to understand how visitors find and use our site so we can improve it.

When we introduce analytics or advertising cookies, we will present a cookie notice and, where required, ask for your consent before those cookies are set. You can also control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling some cookies may affect how the site works.

7 How long we keep data

We keep your personal data only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy — for example, for as long as you are an active student and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet our record-keeping, accounting, and legal obligations. When we no longer need your data, we delete it or make it anonymous.

8 How we protect data

We take reasonable and appropriate steps to protect your personal data against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access, and we work with reputable service providers who do the same. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9 Your rights

You have the right to ask us to:

  • confirm whether we hold personal data about you, and give you a copy;
  • correct information that is inaccurate or out of date;
  • delete your data where we no longer have a reason to keep it;
  • stop sending you marketing messages; and
  • withdraw any consent you have given, at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time and in line with the PDPO and any other laws that apply to you. Under the PDPO we may charge a reasonable fee for complying with a data-access request.

10 Children's privacy

We teach students of all ages, including children and teenagers. Where a student is a minor, we ask that a parent or legal guardian makes the booking and provides consent on the child's behalf. We collect only the information needed to provide lessons to that student, and a parent or guardian may review or request deletion of their child's information at any time.

11 International users

We teach students worldwide, so your information may be processed in Hong Kong and in other countries where we or our service providers operate. Data-protection laws in those countries may differ from those where you live. Wherever your data is processed, we apply the standards set out in this policy.

12 Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services or the law. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and significant changes may be highlighted on our site.
